[Science News] – Reintroduction of endangered plant species: a bold move or a necessity?
Meadow clary, wild orchids, calcareous grassland flora… In a fragmented landscape, some species no longer manage to grow back on their own.
To prevent their definitive extinction, human intervention is essential. Discover in this video – in French – how Meise Botanic Garden is collaborating with Natagora and the Public Service of Wallonia (Service public de Wallonie, SPW) to reinforce and reintroduce these lost or threatened plants in Wallonia.
This video belongs to a series of supplementary episodes and the documentary film “La nature à la reconquête de la Wallonie”, all available on the Natagora website.
In Flanders, too, we are participating in similar projects. Through LIFE Harwin (2023–2028), we are working to restore nature in the Winge valley. The project brings threatened habitats, plant and animal species, and people closer together again in the heart of Flanders. There, we are restoring several habitats of European importance. Meise Botanic Garden contributes by propagating 10 plant species, outplanting them in the restored areas, and monitoring their development.
